do you get burned out on doing law? I know with my job, I'm pretty much burned out on it. wouldnt care if I never go back. I'm so sick of seeing dying or dead adults and even more the kids and babies that I hate it. I'm known at work for having really bad luck and getting the calls with the dying little kids or babies. dont know how many I've had, but way too many.

I've been wishing to get a new career, maybe going back to school. I dont know. hard to start over at my age.

Way, way burned out. That was a big part of the reason I quit my firm 6 months ago and am kinda "free lancing" at the moment. Just needed some space/freedom from the intense daily grind. I am loving being able to set my own schedule, including doing NOTHING law related if I don't want and just go work in the yard instead.

It's never to late to go back to school. When I was in law school there were people there in their 40's and even 1 in his 50's (he was previous career military) that were just burned out on their previous careers and wanted to do something different. Of course, MONEY is usually the killer factor.

yeah that would kill me. sending my daughter through nursing school in college right now. make pretty good money, nothing like a lawyer I'm sure, at the fire dept. but still, sure wish we got paid like the sports players that play games get paid. guess priorities are more toward entertainment than emergencies until they have one.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Lawyer pay varies tremendously depending on what kind of law you practice and where. Insurance defense is decent pay, steady, but is a "flat rate" by the hour type of work. We don't get huge 30% of the verdict type paydays like Plaintiff's lawyers do. I do alright, but I'm not making oodles that's for sure.

And you are soo right about the misplaced priorities in society. I think policemen, firefighters and teachers are SHAMEFULLY underpaid compared to their value to society.

Red face

and I dont guess there's anything that can be done about it to get pay changed. seems weird you can make millions to throw a ball, put a puck in a net, but when it comes to protecting the public or fighting a fire or trying to save someones life, they dont want to pay you very much.

SS you sound like my late father. He was burnt on the law and got into land investment by the time he was 38. He practiced civil law.
Chaser, I've always been disgusted by that. I'll never forget as I was leaving a theatre, having just seen 'Backdraft' and thinking that these actors 'playing firefighters' would make more from that film than many real firefighters will make in their lifetime. I remember thinking
"there's just something way fucked up here."
